A natural barrier in random greedy hypergraph matching

چکیده
Let r be a fixed constant and let H be an r-uniform, D-regular hypergraph on N vertices. Assume further that D → ∞ as N → ∞ and that co-degrees of pairs of vertices in H are at most L where L = o(D/ log N). We consider the random greedy algorithm for forming a matching in H. We choose a matching at random by iteratively choosing edges uniformly at random to be in the matching and deleting all edges that share at least one vertex with a chosen edge before moving on to the next choice. This process terminates when there are no edges remaining in the graph. We show that with high probability the proportion of vertices of H that are not saturated by the final matching is at most (L/D) 1 2(r−1) . This point is a natural barrier in the analysis of the random greedy hypergraph matching process.

On the random greedy F-free hypergraph process
Let F be a strictly k-balanced k-uniform hypergraph with e(F ) ≥ |F | − k + 1 and maximum co-degree at least two. The random greedy F -free process constructs a maximal F -free hypergraph as follows. Consider a random ordering of the hyperedges of the complete k-uniform hypergraph K n on n vertices. Start with the empty hypergraph on n vertices. Successively consider the hyperedges e of K n in ...

Let H(n,N), where k ≥ 2, be a random hypergraph on the vertex set [n] = {1, 2, . . . , n} with N edges drawn independently with replacement from all subsets of [n] of size k. For d̄ = kN/n and any ε > 0 we show that if k = o(ln(d̄/ lnn)) and k = o(ln(n/ ln d̄)), then with probability 1−o(1) a random greedy algorithm produces a proper edge-colouring of H(n,N) with at most d̄(1+ε) colours. This yield...
متن کاملCounting Hypergraph Matchings up to Uniqueness Threshold
We study the problem of approximately counting matchings in hypergraphs of bounded maximum degree and maximum size of hyperedges. With an activity parameter λ, each matching M is assigned a weight λ|M |. The counting problem is formulated as computing a partition function that gives the sum of the weights of all matchings in a hypergraph. This problem unifies two extensively studied statistical...
متن کاملA note on random greedy coloring of uniform hypergraphs
The smallest number of edges forming an n-uniform hypergraph which is not r-colorable is denoted by m(n, r). Erdős and Lovász conjectured thatm(n, 2) = θ (n2n). The best known lower boundm(n, 2) = Ω (√ n/ logn2n ) was obtained by Radhakrishnan and Srinivasan in 2000. We present a simple proof of their result. The proof is based on analysis of random greedy coloring algorithm investigated by Plu...
متن کاملOn the Pixel Expansion of Hypergraph Access Structures in Visual Cryptography Schemes
In a visual cryptography scheme, a secret image is encoded into n shares, in the form of transparencies. The shares are then distributed to n participants. Qualified subsets of participants can recover the secret image by superimposing their transparencies, but non-qualified subsets of participants have no information about the secret image. Pixel expansion, which represents the number of subpi...
